Emperor angelfish
Biology
Juveniles are solitary and shy, and hide in holes and crevices of sheltered areas of reefs, lagoons or channels. They feature blue and white rings on a blue-black background. Adults, whose females can turn into males, have clear blue and yellow stripes.
Conservation
The ecosystems surrounding the islands that compose the Polynesia have been devastated due to the wild fishing. The use of fishing nets and toxic substances has led to the physical destruction of these reefs, threatening the species that are dependent on those places. As an attempt of fighting those activities and protect those habitats, Natural Reserves have been created.
Curiosities
This species is very territorial and live in harens, where a male defends two to five females.
