Fire goby

Biology

This fish lives in tropical waters, next to coral reefs at depths up to 60 metres. Here, the adults occupy holes, alone or in pairs, while the juveniles form groups of several individuals. Usually, it remains turned against the current so it can feed on drifting plankton.

Conservation

This species might be at risk, due to loss of its habitat - the coral reefs.

Curiosities

The fire goby has the interesting habit of shaking its long dorsal fin backwards and forwards, while hovering in the water. This is used as a signal to other fire gobies.
