Voltar

French angelfish

Biology

Of all of the angelfishes that inhabit the coral reefs of the tropical Atlantic, this is one of the biggest. This species is common in shallow rocky and coral reefs and it is usually found in pairs, which are strongly territorial. It feeds on sponges, algae, gorgonians and tunicates.

Conservation

This species is not endangered. However its habitat faces severe threats, putting the species that live there at some risk. These are ecosystems rich in biodiversity, which provide not only food but also shelter to many marine species.

Curiosities

Juveniles like the blue tang surgeonfish, work at “cleaning stations” where they remove parasites from other fish.
