French grunt
Biology
The French-grunt occurs in large shoals on rocky and coral reefs, often up to 60 metres deep. Juveniles are abundant in seagrass beds, near the coast. It feeds at dusk on crustaceans and molluscs.
Curiosities
This species grinds its teeth, producing a sound like a grunt, a fact which earned it its common name.
