Grey snapper

Biology

This species inhabits coastal waters as well as coral reefs, rocky areas, estuaries, mangrove swamps, and sometimes in the lower reaches of rivers. There they form large groups, especially juveniles. At night, they search for food: molluscs, crustaceans, fish and plankton.

Conservation

This species is versatile in that it may be found in different habitats. Both in coral reefs – true paradises of biodiversity – or mangrove swamps. These are communities of angiosperms tolerant to salt that exhibit a large variety of forms: from small shrubs to trees 40 metres tall. While on top we can see monkeys, below in the roots we find fishes and turtles.

Curiosities

They can be confused with other species of snappers, only distinguished by examining their teeth.
