Indian sail-fin surgeonfish

Biology

The indian sail-fin surgeonfish inhabits lagoons and reef waters up to 30 metres in depth. While adults swim in pairs, juveniles are solitary and prefer the protection of the branched coral of the genus Acropora. It has a laterally compressed body but the main feature is the stripes and colour pattern, varying from bright yellow to black. When disturbed, it extends the dorsal and anal fins, making it look like the body is twice its size.

Curiosities

This tang is known for being territorial and aggressive towards individuals of the same species.
