Latticed butterflyfish
Biology
This is an uncommon butterflyfish species, however it can be found in areas of rich coral growth and protected reef areas. It is usually observed in pairs and it feeds on live corals and sea anemones.
Conservation
These fish inhabit the world’s largest coral reef: the Great Barrier Reef. This biological structure is composed of millions of small living organisms called coral polyps. It is home to a great variety of animals, from turtles and sharks to rays and anemones, amongst many others. Part of this reef is protected by a Marine Park which reduces the impact of human activity, like fishing and tourism.
Curiosities
This species has a dark stripe on the dorsal, anal and caudal fins, the position of which varies with age.
