Longnose butterflyfish

Biology

This butterflyfish owes its name to its long snout that resembles a pair of needles and which it uses for picking food out of crevices and between coral heads. It lives in small groups that may include up to five individuals. However, during the mating season, they pair up and maintain the relationship for several years.

Conservation

The longnose butterflyfish is the most widespread of all butterflyfishes.

Curiosities

They are highly territorial and spend a great amount of time near caves and rocky platforms.
