Orange-lined triggerfish

Biology

The orange-lined triggerfish is characteristic of shallow coral reefs. It has a fascinating colouration, which varies from green to brown or greyish, however it always shows diagonal orange or yellow stripes along its body. Near the caudal fin it has a large dark spot and by the dorsal fin it has a strong spine that it uses to push predators away.

Curiosities

This is a solitary, territorial and very aggressive fish when facing other species. During breeding season, the eggs are laid in a single hole that is excavated on the sandy bottom and they hatch at night.
