Yellowbanded pipefish
Biology
The yellowbanded pipefish belongs to the same family as seadragons and seahorses. This species exhibits a cleaning behaviour, having cleaning stations visited by other fishes. It is a small fish (11 to 25 centimetres) commonly seen along silted and muddy bottoms, which is common along areas with very little current, such as some estuaries.
Curiosities
Like seahorses and seadragons, this pipefish is ovoviviparous and the male incubates its eggs inside a pouch that lays under the caudal fin.
