Voltar

Yellowbar angelfish

Biology

The yellowbar angelfish begins its life as a female, being able to later convert into male. Inhabits coral-rich and rocky areas or protected bays.

Conservation

Its range includes several marine protected areas. However the coral reefs it inhabits are facing serious survival challenges, like pollution, overfishing, physical destruction by ship traffic, and climate change. If the coral’s destruction continues at the present rate, 70 percent of the world’s reef will disappear within 50 years from now.

Curiosities

It shows a highly organized system with harems, in which one male protects and controls two or more females.
