Mushroom anemone

Biology

These anemones are often referred to as false corals, due to their resemblance to true corals. However, unlike these, mushroom anemones lack a calcium carbonate skeleton. The tentacles in the oral disk are short and delicate. Although the most common colour is green, the anemones are also found in blue and red. They mostly live in shallow areas of the reef and share a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae (zooxanthellae).
