Voltar

Short-spined sea star

Biology

The short-spined sea star is pink and can grow up to 60 centimetres in diameter and weigh up to four kilogrammes. It does not appreciate life outside the water and that is why it is found on beaches – only during low tides – and sandy bottoms up to 110 metres in depth. It is a voracious predator that digs in sediment after prey and whose stomach may be extended to digest the food.
