Voltar

Sunflower seastar

Biology

The juvenile sunflower seastar has only five arms, but it can have from 20 to 24 by the time it reaches adulthood. The arms host more than 15,000 tubular shaped feet, which together exert a phenomenal strength. In some areas of the United Stated these sea-stars are called "sea pigs" because they are so voracious.

Curiosities

This is one of the largest and fastest sea-stars, being able to move 50 centimetres in less than one minute.
