Troschell's sea star
Biology
The Troschell's sea star lives on rocky or sandy bottoms, up to 70 metres deep. This sea star is a voracious predator that feeds mainly on molluscs, and that has the incredible ability to push out its stomach and digest the food over three days before sucking it back in.
Curiosities
The distribution of the small thorns on its upper side follows no geometric pattern and its colour may be in varied tones of orange, brown, blue and grey. At the tip of each arm, it has little spots formed by a light sensitive pigment, which enables it to look for shelter in dark places.
