Bird's-nest fern

Biology

The bird’s nest fern is a fern that develops on other plants – epiphytic – on soils or on organic matter. The leaves, similar to those of the banana tree, grow complete and undulated, and are bright green with a central dark vein. On the lower side, spores are found in groups which form the sori and become brown as they mature.

Curiosities

The young leaves exhibit a circinate vernation which means that the tip of the lower side of the leaf curls.
