Hoya

Biology

The hoya is a perennial creeper, a vine or, less frequently, a shrub. It commonly grows epiphytically on trees, but some grow terrestrially, or occasionally in rocky areas. It has simple, whole leaves, typically succulent, which may exhibit a variety of forms. The flowers occur in umbels and acquire many different colours.

Curiosities

This genus includes between 200 and 300 tropical species, and belongs to the family Apocynaceae. It was first described by botanist Robert Brown who named the genus after his friend, fellow botanist Thomas Hoy.
