Pampas grass

Biology

Pampas grass is a large-sized perennial herb with white inflorescences similar to feathers that can reach three metres in height. Its leaves are sharp and have cutting edges.

Conservation

Pampas grass was introduced and naturalized in southern Europe, Canary Islands, Australia, New Zeland and western USA. In Portugal, it is considered an invasive species that uses the resources available for other native species.

Curiosities

It is a dioecious plant, so that male flower and female flower are separate, the male flower larger than the female.
