Peace lily

Biology

The genus Spathiphyllum belongs to the Araceae family and is commonly called Peace Lily. Like all members of its family, it is easily recognized by the white bract, a modified leaf that surrounds an orange yellowish spadix – the structure where the flowers are developed. This genus occurs in primary forests and is commonly associated with water and streams, growing in large colonies that are interconnected by their rhizomes.

Curiosities

The name Spathiphyllum comes from the Greek and means leaf-spathe, referring to the bract surrounding a thick protruding flower cluster.
